5 Green Smoothie Tips That Work Every Time

Let's be honest - we' all been there. You want to make yourself a healthy and delicious green smoothie so you get out all the greens and fruits that you can find in your kitchen. You start blending and your smoothie actually turns beautifully green. Then you take a sip just to realize your green smoothie tastes just as "green" as it looks. You force yourself to take another sip but all you can think is what a fail. Let me assure you - you don't have to plug your nose and chug down your green smoothie in order to get those important nutrients. Follow these 5 simple green smoothie tips to make delicious green smoothies every time.

5 Green Smoothie Tips to Take Your Smoothies to The Next Level

If you do it right (and doing it right actually is so simple), you won't even taste those leafy greens in your smoothie. Whenever I make a green smoothie now, I follow these green smoothie tips and it just tastes as delicious as a normal smoothie. And believe me, once you start getting the hang of it, you'll want to have a green smoothie all the time because a) they're packed with healthy nutrients and b) they're also super delicious.

Apply These Green Smoothie Tips Today

You can actually apply all of these green smoothie tips today. No need to go out and by an expensive, high-speed blender or spend a fortune for superfoods and smoothie blends. I've been making my smoothies in a 30€ blender for years now and they turn out wonderfully. What's most important is how you make your smoothies and not what you make them in. So here are my 5 green smoothie tips for you:

Green Smoothie Tip #1: Choose your greens wisely

Especially if you have a more budget-friendly mixer, it really makes a difference what types of greens you choose. I like to go for baby spinach because I found it is just so much easier to break down than those big chunky spinach leafs. However, if you can't get your hands on some baby spinach, make sure to remove the stems of the spinach. This goes for any type of leafy green that you use for your green smoothie. Removing the chunky bits makes an enormous difference when it comes to making smooth and creamy smoothies.

Green Smoothie Tip #2: Blend your greens first

This one literally changed my smoothie game. I used to just throw everything into my blender and hope for the best. Which usually resulted in some pieces of spinach stems left in my otherwise delicious smoothie. I don't think I need to tell you that this is not a very pleasant surprise when you drink your smoothie.
What I do now instead is to blend my greens first. I add the greens and the liquid first and blend it until it's all one consistent green color and there are no pieces left. And then I like to blend it for another 30 seconds just to make sure!

Green Smoothie Tip #3: Blend with orange juice instead of water

Orange juice not only has amazing health benefits for your body (it's one of the richest vitamin C sources!), it can also improve the flavor of your green smoothie immensely. Instead of blending the greens with water, try some orange juice instead. I like to add some freshly squeezed juice of one or two oranges because I think it's just so much more flavorful than store-bought. Adding the orange juice later on would increase the overall amount of liquid and make your smoothie too runny, so it's important to replace the water with orange juice.

Green Smoothie Tip #4: Add natural sweetness

While the orange juice already adds a nice sweetness to your green smoothie, you can improve the taste even further by adding fruits that are naturally sweet - like bananas, mangoes or pineapples. There is no need to add sugar, agave nectar or maple syrup to your green smoothie because these fruits are already sweet enough to make your smoothie taste great! One of my favorite combinations is mango and spinach.

Green Smoothie Tip #5: Add different flavors and textures

Now comes the part where you can go crazy and add all of the things you like. Well, maybe not all of them at once, but there really are no limits to what you can add. Fresh herbs such as mint or basil are a great way to add some different flavors to your green smoothie. Or you can add hemp seeds or nuts for some crunch as well as some healthy protein or fats. Especially if you are having a smoothie every day, this is a great way to add some variation so you don't get tired of drinking green smoothies.
